i cant believe there is someone else with this problem, i am 27 and started sniffing bleach scrub when i was in middle school. i stopped when i was about 21 and recently started back doing it. i am very ashamed and don't no how i started back doing this, i feel so dumb, i know this habit has to have some serious side affects and i really want to stop, but it is very hard.

i tried to ask her why she likes it soo much and her only reply was that it smelllls so good...i mean we're best friends and we clean the house together and i understand that it deodorizes and its fresh but she can't help it or stop either!!..to be honest i thought she was the only one with this problem but there are people just like her to. I found some more people who like her enjoy smelling/sniffing/inhaling the cleaner or scrub and they say its because they are pregnant but she's not pregnant..were both in college now and i don't know maybe it could be a phase but i just don't want any bad affects from this

i think it is very serious, and if she is willing to talk to someone about it she should.  i have a counselor and i talk to about it and helps me a little bit better understand why i do it.  but it does not completely stop me from wanting to sniff, since i recently started the longest i've been without is 1 month.

what if  she is in to the fumes...not smelling the cleaner to get high but just the scent...

i think she says she just likes the smell because it does not sound so bad, trust me it is the the fumes that make us want to sniff, very little has to do with the scent. maybe it started out that way sniffing for the scent but that wears off, for me anyway it gives me a very clam hazy feeling. and it does get to the point when my mouth waters for it and i feel i have to smell it. (it is totally crazy) but anyway my counselor thinks it is a very big deal and that i need to stop, and speak to a drug counselor on how to deal with the cravings. but i have children and am embarrassed to go to drug treatment for BLEACH SCRUB! I think i can do it on my own. i stopped before when i was pregnant with all three of my children, so i am pretty sure if i can stop for them i can stop for myself! Good luck with your friend. And if you or her want to talk to someone who knows first hand what she is going through just send me a message.

i think what i would do in this situation is choose a close friend or maybe two that i felt i could tell about my problem and ask them to help me, motivate me and talk to me about it, maybe see if i could call them everytime i was going to take the drug so they could tell me not to, change the subject and change my mind! i guess the most important thing is to feel you're not dealing with it on you're own and your doing the right thing by stopping it.

hey friends your not alone, i think it must be some lack of a mineral or something. I started liking to smell the cleaner with disinfectant and brushing my teeth sooo much. this was when i was expecting my first child. After he was born I was ok, untill i had my 2 other children, i wanted to eat it, but trust me it taste very bad. Now I am in my 40s and it has started up even worse this time . My hands were raw from cleaning my sinks ,tubs and even the floors. And I don't know how toothpaste is connected but it is the enamel on my teeth is weaking and some has wore off. I talked to a couple of nurses ans my dr. and they think i need some kind of vitamine. One of the nurses said she had the same craving for it.

I smell the disinfecting cleaner everyday five times a day.. There is no side affect i just absolutely love the scent of it . I have four bottles of lemon fresh cleaner and two of the regular. i also have the bathroom cleaner and spray gel. and for other products i have window cleaner(which also smells good but i do not sniff it directly) and bleach(which i might love the smell of even more than the disinfecting cleaner.) and finally i have a clean linen carpet powder. I adore the smell of clean linen products. But I read online recently that smelling these household cleaners constantly and chewing ice were symptoms of low iron. I used to chew ice non stop and had already had to have a root canal. But i still kept chewing so i went to the store and bought some  vitamins that contains 100% of iron, I stopped chewing ice so much almost immediately but still have the craving to smell certain cleaners.  I'm not worried though. I've read the disinfecting cleaner is not so harmful if you smell it all the time it has low bleach.. A bit worried of the pure bleach though.
