I'm a diabetic and have to use rubbing alcohol to clean the sight before testing and in the process have become addicted to smelling the rubbing alcohol. It doesn't really matter if it's 70% or 91% although I prefer 91%. I will put some in my hands to clean them, put it on a cotton ball, and most recent will put it on a paper towel. I will smell/sniff/huff it till its dry. I know this can't be good for me, but afraid to say anything because I have a 10 almost 11year old child. I don't want him taken away from me. He is my life. I can live without it but I some how I feel I can't.

Thank you for reaching out for help. I'm not a medical doctor, but apparently some people who have a craving for non-food items *may* have a mineral deficiency, such as iron deficiency anemia. Please, however, do NOT start taking iron pills until *after* your doctor recommends them (which is usually after having gotten a blood test for anemia, for instance). Too much iron in the blood may result in kidney or liver (the largest internal organ) damage.
Please consider attending a 12-step program, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). It's a peer support group, and the only requirement is having a desire to get sober. (One may attend an "open" meeting if the individual doesn't have a drinking problem). Here is their website: http://www.aa.org/

I too love to inhale 91 isopropyl rubbing alcohol. I used to work in the medical field so using alcohol was common place. Then one day I thought I would clean my face with it and it got up my nose. Oh the burn! But in a way it felt good and I loved the smell. So everytime Id use an alcohol pad Id sniff it. Then Id open bottles and sniff. Now I take an empty 2 liter and put about half a cup of rubbing alcohol inside. I shake it to get the good fumes. If I really want to get the burn I microwave it for 10 seconds. Wow what a rush! Why do I crave this?
