My grandson is 15, and has been living on the streets in Grants Pass, Oregon, for the last year. He dropped out of school about 3 years ago. He is in temporary Juvenile Detention right now, but they're trying to get his mom to take him back. If she does, she will drop him back out on the street. Meanwhile, I discovered this past weekend that he's been huffing computer duster regularly. He was out for a visit, and ended up collapsing and breaking off three of his teeth and busting his chin open. The detention center has NOT BEEN TOLD what happened.
I am trying to get in touch with them to tell them what's going on - he needs intervention, and I don't know how to make it happen, since no other adult in his life is willing to take a stand for him. Since he's already in detention, is there any way I can work with them to get him help? I realize that he's got to make his own decision to change, but without help on the street, I'm afraid that he'll be dead very soon.
