Well, you should tell the truth to your mom. I also suggest that you should go to your nearest rehab treatment facilities with programs for inhalant abusers and seek for an advice from the professional staff.

Ive inhaled duster numerous times during summer, and also inhaled butane a few time. Now that I'm noticing the long damage, especially muscle spasams, its really scaring me and I'm really starting to regret ever touching inhalents. I was wondering if there is a way to reverse all the damage caused by inhaling, especially the spasms and brain damage ect. If i go to the doctor what could he possibly do treatment wise? Give medication? Surgery?  Or if i never touch inhalents again, will the damage heal eventually?

Also, if i go to the doctor, do i have to tell him that I've inhaled duster?

dustfunny,
I appreciate your honesty. Your story and every one else's help people whether you know it or not. I hope that you read my story under the heading 'hello'. being upfront about having a problem is very hard and i hope that you and your friend get better because addiction is a sickness. that is one thing that people quickly forget, they condem people's probelms, gossip, 'why don't they just quit?' they say..but they don't understand. looking in the mirror everyday and jonsing for more is no walk in the park...it's a problem. please, be your own savior...and maybe your friend will follow suit.

mike555- Good question! If you were a long term inhalant abuser chances are greater that some of the effects are irreversible.  If i were you I'd make a doctor's appointment asap and speak with him/her specifically about how your health has deteriorated.

Hello everyone.  I first tried computer duster about 15 years ago and only did it a couple times.  Now I have started doing it again but now it is a huge problem.  I cannot think of anything else but sucking on that can.  NA meetings are not enough to help with this obsession.  Has anyone out there been able to quit and can offer advice?

Thanks

mockey- Outside of NA, where have you gone for help?  Have you talked to your doctor about resources in your area?

Keep going to the meetings, you never know there could be a breakthrough.  Please keep us posted on your progress.

Can any past inhalant users out there give some advice?

QueshiaB...I have tried NA and AA.  I also go to one on one therapy and take medication for my OCD.  Right now my obsession is duster.  I hope that when my OCD is treated it will help relieve my impusivity as well as my obsessions.  I am just looking for any advice that people may have other than just "don't do it".  Thanks for the reply.

Also I just got out of 3 weeks of inpatient and 2 weeks of outpatient rehab.  I learned REBT and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  It helps for drinking and other drugs but for some reason duster is different.  I am constantly thinking about it and am miserable when I am not doing it.

Every time before attempt to inhale think about how it will be causing irreversible permanent brain damage. You may not notice anything now, but eventually through time you will start to feel a bit mentally challenged. Whether its slurring your speech or having a blank mind for no reason and starring aimlessly at an object. It could affect  other parts of your body, like your hair. Inhalant abuse causes bone marrow damage, which is responsible for producing red blood cells. You form anemia and start growing really loose hair, which could eventually make you bald. And the only way to grow more healthier and thicker hair, you need to take supplements like folic acid and vitamin B12. Since inhalant abuse causes a deficiency of vitamin b12 and folic acid. Oh yeah, it could also kill you too. So every time you inhale your playing a game of russian roulette. So if you believe there is a chance of dying and still continue to do it, then your pretty much being suicidal. Being suicidal is another huge  problem which should be checked out immediately by a psychiatrist.

Inhaling duster is also quite an idiotic thing to do. Even if you tell a drug dealer that you inhale computer duster, he's going to think your a moron. Since its the worst possible drug/substance that could affect a person's health with a great amount of damage. Your better off doing other substances like smoking pot than inhaling duster which is probably 100 times worst than smoking pot. Heck, even doing shrooms and getting hppd isn't as damaging as the long term brain damage caused by inhaling duster,

You might not believe that it actually causes damage to your health, but once you start noticing the long term effects in your everyday life you will regret ever touching this substance. Quit now before it starts to mess with your life. Try to find other ways of pleasuring your body. Like getting a "runner's high" or perhaps masturbating. Also change your philosophy in life too. It could either be based on how you want to feel or how you want to think. By basing it on the way you want to think, you will live a productive life which will be based on long term satisfaction, rather than destructing your self with short term satisfaction, like inhaling duster,  which will lead you nowhere later on in life and make you into a vegetable.

Also they should start having commercials on television telling people about the harmful effects of inhaling duster and also somehow incorporate this message in anti-drugs assemblies at schools and health classes. Since all the information online about inhalant abuse is being viewed and found by people who have already made the mistake of doing duster. They've done a good job on scaring kids with those gruesome anti-meth advertisements. They should do the same with computer duster. Like showing a teenage kid lying on floor dead with blue skin as he has a can of duster in one hand and a plastic bag in the other.

So a few nights later when I was at a friend's house, I found a can of it. So she and I decided to try it. We didn't know what it did to you at all, so we didn't have any idea what to expect.

She has done pretty much everthing except Meth and Acid, and she says that is the best high she has ever gotten. Up until recently we still did it every so often, but I have no problem in saying no one should ever do it ever. This stuff is horrible for you.

I've even gotten a throat infection from it. And my friend has had nosebleeds. We also experience bad headaches and lasting effects. Not to mention we have had accidents involving me hitting my head on metal train tracks, as well as my friend falling off of a train track bridge and rolling down a hill. I have had a friend crash his car while on it. And I have another friend who siezures when he does it.

But as of now, I think we may be done with duster.

And as for the bittering agent in the cans, the only times we have been left with a bad taste in our mouths was when we each did an entire can to ourselves in about an hour or so.

Dude If your friend bleeds from the nose when he does it, he needs to stop immediately. Not alot of people know this. But the way Air Duster Kills you is it suffucates your brain. Basically in lamence terms. You bleed from every hole in your head. Nose, Eyes, Ears, Mouth, ect. So if you bleed this is coming from your brain and that is not good my friend.

I was a past user. Me and my friends would get together and do it. One of my friends Mark would huff and pass out everytime. It was very scary. At one point my friend Jason punched Mark in the groin 5 times as hard as he could while Mark was passed out after a hit. Mark didn't feel anything until he came to. It may sound humorous but its not. Its really dangerous.

I myself have only passed out once. And at that time we were parked in a car. I accidently slammed my head off the "Oh S***" handle bar without even knowing it till I came too.

I have also hit a telephone pole while Huffing. I passed out while driving.

One last experience I wanna share is I became very violent on the air duster. Not so much that I could control it. It was more of someone inside me taking over. At one point I had punched Mark without knowing it and we were began fighting. When we both came to we were so scared because we didn't know it was happening.

Please don't do this drug. We all know theres a chance you might live. But just remember there is a chance you  might die as well. And nobody deserves to leave this world early.

I have been addicted to computer duster for 5 years.
I have been to the hospital 3 times over it.
I burned my neck, it was the size of a CD.
I have wrecked my car.
I have been evicted from my rental house.
I am on the verge of losing my job.
I have been court ordered to attend a drug class.
Addiction sucks, I need help...

Huffing Compressed Gas will kill you.  My partner of 15 years became addicted.  Despite two emergency room visits [one just four days previous] and beginning outpatient counseling, I found him dead on May 28, 2009. He still had a can of compressed gas in his hand. Cause of Death - Difluoroethane-Toxicity.  Anyone who is using or already addicted - do everything you can to get inpatient help. Make sure you tell medical professionals what chemical you are huffing - its not drugs, not alcohol, but a chemical that is poisoning you.  Press the point the chemical is FREON.
